Doctors & Staff

Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Blue Ridge Eye Care a proud provider of vision care products and services in Hendersonville.

Craig Poole, OD

Dr. Poole, a native of Spartanburg, SC, comes from a long line of optometrists. He even fit himself with his first contact lens at age four, much to the dismay of his father and grandfather! He attended Brigham Young University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business – Finance.  Dr. Poole graduated magna cum laude from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, in 2002. Dr. Poole and his wife, Emily, are the parents of three sons and a daughter. He is an avid outdoorsman and if he’s not working, you’ll likely find him on the trail, hiking or camping with his family. He also enjoys traveling and exploring new places with his kids. Dr. Poole is active in the community, volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in his church, and volunteering his time as an eye doctor with the Lions Club.

Emily Shelton Poole

Hendersonville native, wife and “personal secretary” to Dr. Poole, Emily keeps things running behind the scenes. You can find her in the office crunching numbers, trying hard to keep four-year-old Laney Kate from disturbing patients too much. When she’s not managing the business side of Blue Ridge Eye Care or the lives of four busy children, she is a violist with the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, the Brevard Philharmonic, and the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She, too, volunteers in their church, and serves on the Hendersonville Symphony Board of Directors as the chair of the Education Committee. In her (very little) spare time, Emily enjoys running, reading, writing, cooking and eating, being outdoors, and traveling. She would rather starve than go to the grocery store with all four children and she looks forward to any day when she doesn’t have a long list of things to do.

Cheryl Rathburn

Fruitland native and alumnus of Edneyville High School and BRCC, Cheryl now resides in Landrum with her husband Michael and their two sons. While Cheryl claims that her hobbies have been swallowed up in the job of being the mother to two very active boys, she loves to sew and to fish. Cheryl is a calm and steady presence in the office. We love her practical perspective and her gentle manner with patients.
